Extend Shelf Life with Ultra Barrier Lidding Film
Crystal Clear Lidding Film with Super Barrier Properties
Ultra Barrier Lidding Films have been developed with the aim of achieving oxygen, water vapour, and UV barrier properties similar to values that you achieve from applying a layer of aluminium foil in the laminate. This also means that the barrier properties are significantly better than any other conventional non-aluminium barrier laminate such as EVOH, OPA, and PVdC. The barrier layer is made by combining a crystal clear oxide treatment with a special barrier top coating, which is applied to the laminate’s polyester layer. The polyester layer is then laminated to a sealing layer which could be CPP or PE. The Ultra Barrier Lidding Films are available in various thicknesses from 32-120µ . All grades are approved for direct food contact and surface treated for easy printability.
Key benefits:
Use two layered laminates with superior barrier properties and extend shelf life
Superior barrier qualities than EVOH or PVdC
Printable on the coated side
Lower energy and material consumption
Sealable to APET / RPET / PP / PET etc
Safer for the packaged product and safer for the consumer
No chlorine gas emitted during combustion (as with PVdC coating)
Technological Advantages
By applying a colourless and transparent layer of aluminium oxide onto the film we obtain a crystal clear film with the same properties as a traditionally metallized film. Oxide coated films are characterised by:
Available with ANTI FOG, PEEL and RESEAL treatments
Stability at high temperature and humidity
No influence of UV rays
Excellent transparency and clarity
Microwave friendly
No issues with metal detectors
BRC compliant
Super Barrier Performance
Oxide Coatings significantly out-perform other barriers in both OTR and WVTR performance:

Ultra Barrier Transparent Metallization
By applying a colourless layer of aluminium oxides onto the film we obtain a film with the same barrier properties as a traditionally metallized film.AlOx-coated films are characterized by:
- • excellent barrier properties
- • very good clarity and transparency
- • stable properties at high temperature and high humidity
- • suitable for printing on the side coated with AlOx
- • suitable for use in microwave ovens
- • metal detectors can be used during the packaging process
The high barrier AlOx-coated films are also a response to the two main market demands: benefits for the natural environment and benefits for the consumer:
- • they increase the efficiency of the packaging by replacing the EVOH or PVDC layers
- • they have a lower energy consumption and material consumption
- • they have less packaging weight (reducing emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2))
- • they do not emit chlorine gas during combustion (as opposed to the PVDC coating)
- • they are absolutely safe for the packaged product and the consumer
Example usage of a high barrier AlOx-coated films:
- • laminates and top films like “lidding films”
- • dry products and snacks
- • pasteurised products
- • pet food
- • toiletries
- • medical instruments and cosmetic tools (sterilisation)
